WFSA-The Ohio State University Research Fellowships 2020

The WFSA Scientific Affairs Committee & The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center are partnering to provide two research fellowships.

These unique positions are based at the The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Department of Anesthesiology, and open to anesthesiologists from low and middle-income countries (according to World Bank criteria).

The Fellow must be in a position to return to his/her country to continue his/her career and contribute to the development of clinical research after completing his/her fellowship. The selected fellows will spend 12 months in the OSU research program working on research projects under the supervision and guidance offered by the faculty and research staff members of the Department of Anesthesiology and the WFSA Scientific Affairs Committee. The anticipated start date of the fellowship is August 3, 2020.

About the Research Programme

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Department of Anesthesiology’s Research Program is one of the largest clinical anaesthesia research programmes in the world, dedicated to enhancing research skills and training anaesthesiologists in the conduct of research. Research fellows are mentored by the Clinical Research Group, founded by The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Department of Anesthesiology since 2007. The group provides research support for multiple surgical and non-surgical departments covering orthopedic, trauma, ICU, general surgery, transplant, internal medicine and basic science studies. Please note that, in most cases, the selected fellows will be attached to existing OSU studies during the fellowship, but there will be opportunities for the applicant’s to develop his/her own research protocol with the mentorship of our faculty and research staff.

Criteria for applicants:
• Working in low and middle-income countries (World Bank classification).
IELTS score of 7 and above in all categories.
• Preference will be given to applicants less than 40 years old.

Supporting documents required for the application include:
• An outline of the aims and methods of your proposed research project (1-2 pages, less than 500 words)
• Curriculum vitae with one recent photo and the names of two referees
• Letter of recommendation from your national anesthesiology society
• Letter of recommendation from your current workplace (hospital/institution)
• Scanned copy of your medical degree
• Scanned copy of your specialist qualification
• Scanned copy of passport

In the online application, you will need to list 3 current OSU Anesthesiology research studies that most interest you.

A selection panel comprising members of the WFSA Scientific Affairs Committee and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Department of Anesthesiology will assess all applications. Shortlisted applicants may be required to participate in a video interview.

The successful applicants will be notified before mid February 2020.
